The Textile Museum

The Textile Hall designed by the architect Anders Landström was erected in 1993 and is situated beside Zorn's Gammelgård. It came into being because there was a requirement for a reception building for Zorn's Gammelgård and also because there was a need for a display area to exhibit parts of the very large collection of peasant textiles which the Zorns had amassed. The Hall was awarded the Swedish Timber Industry's quadrennial prize for wooden architecture in 1996.

As regards the exhibits from the collection the emphasis is on those that come from the parishes that border Lake Siljan and, above all, from Mora. For example there are door drapes and floor coverings woven in different ways but particularly in the "munkebälte" and "rosengång" techniques. Also on display are many details from the distinctive Mora folk dress which when it comes to appearance is the oldest of all Dalarna parish costumes. There is also a section devoted to the special sort of lacemaking which was done in that area.

The Garden

The garden is beautifully embedded in the snow and a lot of rime in the trees.
